Conservative blog: Tancredo lets slip plans to challenge Ritter in 2010

Did he or didn't he? The local conservative blog Rocky Mountain Right reports retiring Congressman Tom Tancredo told a Republican group last week he intends to run for governor in 2010. Tancredo's spokesman told PolitickerCO.com on Sunday night that his boss was joking, but the blog stands by the report and insists the "Tancredo candidacy is no joke."

Polis, Starin differ dramatically on gay rights issues in Colorado’s 2nd district

Republican 2nd Congressional District candidate Scott Starin balks at the notion of amending the U.S. Constitution, an action he says should not be taken lightly. But when it comes to same-sex marriage, he would be willing to make an exception. “At the federal level, I always am hesitant to amend the Constitution; there’s a reason it’s only been amended a few times in our 230-year-plus history,” said Starin, who’s running against openly gay Democrat Jared Polis in the left-leaning district that includes Boulder.

Obama outraises McCain in GOP stronghold Colorado Springs

Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama has raised tens of thousands of dollars more than his Republican counterpart, John McCain, in the heavily Republican Colorado Springs region, according to an analysis of campaign finance records by The Gazette. Even though the area boasts twice as many registered Republicans as Democrats, Obama raised $265,920 vs. McCain's $202,626 from the start of the campaign through August.

Emerging Latino community stirs need for bilingual poll workers

With a lengthy state ballot and expected lines at the polls, Denver officials say they are working to make sure that on Election Day every voting precinct in the city has at least one bilingual poll worker to assist those who may not speak English. There is a specific emphasis on Spanish speakers.

Udall steamrolls Schaffer by 13 points in Rocky-CBS4 poll

Democrat Mark Udall leads Republican Bob Schaffer 51 percent to 38 percent in the race for Colorado's open Senate seat, amassing winning margins among both sexes and all ages in a Rocky Mountain News-CBS4 poll released Sunday night. Udall trounces Schaffer among the state's unaffiliated voters — 62 percent to 20 percent — surpassing Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's 58 percent support among the group, according to the same news organizations' poll released late last week.

Voting rights group sues Colorado secretary of state over purges

On Saturday, the Advancement Project, a national voter protection organization, filed suit against Colorado Secretary of State Mike Coffman for his alleged illegal purge of tens of thousands of voters across the state.

DENVER and FORT COLLINS -- It was Colorado's biggest show yet. After Barack Obama attracted 19,000 to a February rally on the University of Denver campus, people knew the Illinois senator was going to be popular in Colorado. Then came Obama's acceptance speech at Mile High Stadium during the Democratic National Convention attended by 84,000 in August. Then, with one week remaining before America votes on Election Day, Obama drew an estimated 100,000 people to Civic Center Park in Denver for a morning rally followed by another in Fort Collins that drew another 45,000 to Colorado State University. ‘Marijuana boot camp’ planned to keep post-election activism high

In an effort to keep citizens politically involved after the election, activists supporting marijuana legalization will be holding an all-day symposium to train attendees on how to organize pro-legalization efforts in their areas.
