Democrats could go it alone on health care, Udall says after...

Senate Democrats could be ready to draft health care reform legislation without the help of Republicans, according to Colorado Sen. Mark Udall, who spoke with reporters Thursday afternoon following a meeting Udall, Sen. Michael Bennet and 15 other Democratic senators held with President Barack Obama. "At some point, after you've extended your hand for a number of months and it's not reciprocated," Udall said, "I think it is incumbent on us as the majority party, with responsibility to govern and solve problems, to act."

Pueblo politico confirms Romanoff plans to mount challenge to Bennet

It's not just unnamed sources suggesting former Colorado House Speaker Andrew Romanoff intends to challenge incumbent U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet in a Democratic primary...

Sources: Romanoff planning primary challenge to Bennet for Senate seat

Former House Speaker Andrew Romanoff is readying a primary challenge to incumbent Democratic U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet. Supporters urged Romanoff to mount a primary challenge to Gov. Bill Ritter, whose surprise appointment of Bennet left some party activists angry, The Denver Post's Michael Riley and Christopher N. Osher report, but the 44-year-old Denver Democrat has instead decided to take on Bennet.

TPM: Colorado Senate appointment only one that wasn’t ‘botched’

After five Democratic governors found themselves in a position to appoint "fully five percent of the Senate" after the 2008 election, only Colorado Gov. Bill Ritter earned high marks, Matt Cooper assesses at Talking Points Memo DC.

Perlmutter barely edging Romanoff in Senate support on Facebook

Rep. Ed Perlmutter is winning the race to fill the Senate vacancy opened by Sen. Ken Salazar's move to secretary of Interior, at least on the social-networking site Facebook. A group supporting Perlmutter — When I say Senator, you say PERLMUTTER! — counts 186 members at noon Monday, slightly ahead of another group backing outgoing House Speaker Andrew Romanoff, ** Andrew Romanoff ** for Senate 08, which had 181 members at the same time.

Bernie Buescher is Colorado’s next secretary of state

Gov. Bill Ritter has picked state Rep. Bernie Buescher as Colorado's next secretary of state. "Thank you for the confidence," Buescher told the governor. "I will work hard and try to do a good job." Ritter announced his pick at a news conference in his office this morning. The position came open when Mike Coffman was elected to congress. In all, 20 people applied; that number was whittled to three, including Buescher, as well as outgoing House Speaker Andrew Romanoff and Senate Majority Leader Ken Gordon.

Romanoff, DeGette lead liberal group’s poll on candidates to replace Salazar

Outgoing House Speaker Andrew Romanoff comes out on top, followed by fellow Denver Democrats U.S. Rep. Diana DeGette and Mayor John Hickenlooper in preliminary results from an online poll asking who should replace U.S. Sen. Ken Salazar, who plans to give up his seat to become the secretary of the interior.

Who will wear the hat? Sizing up the possible replacements for...

Tuesday morning, at least a dozen Democrats looked in the mirror and saw the next U.S. senator from Colorado. Trouble is, all but one of them were seeing things. With the announcement the state's senior senator is President-elect Barack Obama's pick to be the next secretary of interior, it falls on Gov. Bill Ritter to name Sen. Ken Salazar's replacement. Within hours of news leaking that Salazar would give up his Senate seat, the names of prominent — and not-so-prominent — Democrats emerged. Some are serious contenders, some would be top picks under different circumstances, and a few, like Academy Award hopefuls, are happy just to be nominated.

Dusting off the classic videos while Colorado waits

While we’re waiting for confirmation about whether Sen. Ken Salazar is really going to be Secretary of the Interior, and who will be the next senator from Colorado, and who will then maybe be the next U.S. Representative from Colorado, and also who will be the next Colorado Secretary of State and the next state House minority leader and possibly the next assistant minority leader, let’s all relax and amuse ourselves for a few minutes watching Ken Gordon swimming with sharks.
