Amid immigration tensions, Hickenlooper looks to bolster ties to Latin America

DENVER-- Amid the heated and highly focused national debate on immigration reform and border security, Denver Mayor and candidate for governor John Hickenlooper is seeking to present a broader view on the matter. At an event in Denver last week toasting the Biennial of the Americas Celebration, a month-long series of events scheduled for July, Hickenlooper emphasized the benefits that have accrued to the United States and Colorado through immigration and stated his aim to promote Colorado as a site for international travel and trade.

AUDIO: McInnis would enact harsh Arizona-style immigration laws

On the Peter Boyles talk radio show Wednesday morning, Republican gubernatorial candidate Scott McInnis said that if he were governor, he would seek to pass the same kind of harsh anti-illegal immigration laws recently passed in Arizona. McInnis dodges financial disclosure, fears ‘taking a beating’

The race for governor in Colorado took a turn this weekend, as the candidates released tax returns to the public. Democrat John Hickenlooper released more than two decades of returns. Republican Scott McInnis released only a couple of years' worth, and he released those returns reluctantly. Indeed, on April 15 he told Fox News Radio in Loveland that he wasn't going to comply with a Denver Post request to release his returns. "I'm not going to invite myself to my own beating," he told hosts Keith Weinman and Gail Fallen. Although the Fox News hosts didn't ask him to elaborate, media outlets and activist groups have taken up the cause.

Hickenlooper to host international leaders at Denver’s Biennial of the Americas

In July Denver Mayor and gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper will host the The Biennial of the Americas (BOA), a month-long international politics and culture fair that will draw leaders from 35 nations to Denver to discuss domestic and foreign affairs, share ideas on how to deepen ties among the countries of the western hemisphere and bring about mutually beneficial policy changes. In the works even before Hickenlooper landed a $2 million grant from the Boettcher Foundation in 2008 to help launch the festival, the Biennial will be a large stage this summer from which Hickenlooper can demonstrate statesmanlike charisma and leadership abilities.

Hickenlooper charms supporters with folksy plea for cooperation

DENVER-- Fresh from a long weekend spent campaigning across the state, Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Hickenlooper was energized last night at meet and greet at Hickenlooper Ground Zero: the Wynkoop Brewing Company, the Lower Downtown tavern that started it all. Hickenlooper lavished the crowd with the natural "aw shucks" everyman charm that GOP opponent former Congressman Scott McInnis and his supporters have been on and off preparing to battle in the weeks since Hickenlooper announced his candidacy.
