DEC Director Resigns

The fallout from Denver’s election debacle continued today with the resignation of John Gaydeski, executive director of the Denver Election Commission.

“The current events that are transpiring in the wake of the election hold the promise of significant and, hopefully, positive changes that may help provide a fresh start for the DEC,” Gaydeski wrote in his resignation letter. The move is the latest in a string of personnel changes at the embroiled DEC. Tech chief Anthony Rainey was placed on leave Nov. 11 and Denver County Clerk and Recorder Wayne Vaden resigned Nov. 14.

Gaydeski’s resignation letter:

December 6, 2006

Commissioner Sandy Adams
Commissioner Susan Rogers
Commissioner Wayne Vaden

Dear Commissioners:

The problems encountered during the November 7 General Election have been well documented and are currently being addressed at all levels in a variety of ways. I certainly assume full responsibility for any contributions I may have made to those problems. The current events that are transpiring in the wake of the election hold the promise of significant and, hopefully, positive changes that may help provide a fresh start for the DEC.

Toward that same end I am hereby tendering my resignation from my position as Executive Director to be effective in 90 days from the date of this letter. This will provide time for the Commission to begin the search for a new Director, while providing some stability for the organization during this transition period. I intend to fully execute my normal duties during this period, as well as to continue moving forward with some of the organizational initiatives we have planned. I will also offer my services beyond that time at the discretion of the Commission.

I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve the Election Commission and the City & County of Denver. I know we made significant progress in several areas, and I certainly wish only the best for the agency in the future. It has been my pleasure to work with you.

Sincerely,

John R. Gaydeski
Executive Director
