Fresh off southern victories, Santorum taps Tea Party singer Branch for theme song

Rick Santorum won primaries in Alabama and Mississippi yesterday, nabbing roughly 35 party nomination delegates, and he celebrated today in part by announcing that he added a new theme song to his campaign soundtrack, “Remember Who We Are,” by Christian Tea Party singer and Fox News darling Krista Branch.

“Our campaign has focused on returning to a government that believes in the American people again, and few songs express the beauty and strength of who we are as free Americans better than Krista’s,” Santorum said in a release. “‘It’s our time,’ as the song says, our time to take a firm, unwavering stand against big government; and it is our time to take our country back.”

Clearly not the kind of track designed to woo indie rock hipsters or hip-hop aficionados, “Remember Who We Are” features never-say-die mixed metaphors atop Christian rock power chords.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes
We will run and not be faint
The time has come for taking chances
We are the masters of our fate

We keep our faith when there’s no way out
When there’s little hope, we show no doubt
We go the distance no matter how far
Oh oh Remember who we are

Branch, a one-time contestant on American Idol, is probably best known for performing “I Am America,” the so-called anthem of the Tea Party, which was later adopted by Herman Cain as his campaign song.

“Remember Who We Are” was first promoted by former Fox personality and Tea Party impresario Glenn Beck, who played it on his radio show. Branch later made a video for the song promoting Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally.

Branch lived in Colorado Springs for a time and the story of her daughter’s near death from drowning there was featured on the Christian Broadcasting Network’s 700 Club.
