Klingenschmitt apologizes for saying Polis would behead Christians

There’s a long tradition of so-called House Crazies in the Colorado House of Representatives, but if Gordon “Dr. Chaps” Klingenschmitt wins his House District 15 seat in El Paso County, he may become the all-time Champion of Crazy.

In his latest – and possibly greatest – bit of weirdness, he has charged that Jared Polis, the openly gay Congressman, will “join ISIS in beheading Christians, not just in Syria, right here in America.”

He apparently sent the beheading line out in a newsletter for his Pray in Jesus Name project. House Speaker Mark Ferrandino, in a news release, has called for GOP Chairman Ryan Call to denounce Klingenschmitt. If he does, that may become a full-time job for him.

Colorado Pols ran this excerpt of the newsletter:

Gay Congressman: “No Religious Exemptions” for Christians
The openly homosexual Congressman Jared Polis (D-CO) introduced a revised bill to force Christian employers and business owners to hire and promote homosexuals with ZERO RELIGIOUS EXEMPTIONS for Christians who want to opt out.
Polis “wants sexual orientation and gender identity treated the same way as race, religion, sex, and national origin, when it comes to employment protections,” claims the Advocate, under the headline “Polis trims ENDA’s religious exemption.”
Dr. Chaps’ comment: The open persecution of Christians is underway. Democrats like Polis want to bankrupt Christians who refuse to worship and endorse his sodomy. Next he’ll join ISIS in beheading Christians, but not just in Syria, right here in America.

Here’s the Colorado Springs Gazette story.

Update, end of work day Monday: GOP Chair Ryan Call apologizes for Republican House candidate Gordon Klingenschmitt’s latest outrage, but says not to judge Republicans by the acts of one would-be House Crazy, via KDVR.

Klingenschmitt, meanwhile, also apologizes, via YouTube, and says he was just using “hyperbole” in saying that Jared Polis would behead Christians. He apologizes and then does the ALS ice bucket challenge — using a bucket with no ice. Seriously.
