Attention all womenfolk!
What are you steamed about? The heat? The traffic? The primary election results? Our mess of an immigration policy? The Supreme Court nomination? The handcuffing of a certain journalist by Denver police? The critters that are eating your tomato plants?
Whatever’s bugging you this summer, we invite you to dance it off with us and other women at The Colorado Independent’s Red Tent party starting at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, July 20th at the Mercury Café in Denver.
Women seldom need a reason to get together, to dance, eat and drink, and share their stories, but rarely have the opportunity. So here it is.
There’s a lot to celebrate. The Indy is led by two women editors, a new woman publisher, and a woman board chair. We’re growing as a publication, in our readership, and in the impact we’re making with our coverage. And we feel like throwing a party to celebrate with our readers and friends. The DJ is LaWanna. The drummers are Batala Rocky Mountains. And the girl band is the Milk Blossoms.
Admission is a tax-deductible donation of at least $20 payable either online or at the door. The event will include light snacks, a cash bar and the Mercury Café menu, which is cash only. And, in the spirit of a women’s red tent, we will host a bazaar. If you are so moved, bring a piece from your closet, your jewelry box or your shelf that’s artsy, funky or fabulous, and donate it for sale at the bazaar. All proceeds from the bazaar and entry will go to The Independent’s nonprofit newsroom in support of our public interest journalism.
Bring your friends, your daughters and granddaughters of any age. Bring your neighbors, fellow book club members or favorite summer intern. Bring your dancing shoes. And, of course, bring your steam. We can’t wait to dance with you!
