Senate to Battle House on Trigger Locks

The amendment by Rep. Marilyn Musgrave (R-4) to defund a requirement that all gun dealers provide trigger locks when selling handguns remained absent from the Senate version of the spending bill approved by the full Senate Appropriations Committee today.“It is absurd to argue that a five dollar safety lock makes personal protection more costly. These locks protect kids,” said Sen. Herb Kohl (D-WI), at the committee meeting. Kohl, who championed the trigger lock law in 2005, vowed to restore it when Senate and House members meet later in the year to come to agreement on the final version of the Commerce, Justice and Science Appropriations bill.

Rep. Musgrave sponsored a successful amendment to defund the trigger lock requirement when the House passed its version of the spending bill.
