The RTD Election That Wasn’t

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) in metropolitian Denver is in charge of turning sales tax revenues and fares into bus and light rail service.  Eight of its fifteen seats are up for election this year in a non-partisan election (roughly half the seats are contested every two years).  The deadline for getting on the RTD ballot in November has come and gone.  Only one of this year’s eight races, in Conifer, is contested. The contested race, in Conifer’s RTD District N, will be between Rich Mahan and Donald Moore, who live about two blocks apart from each other on Black Hawk drive.  This open seat is currently held by Stephen Millard.  Rich Mahan is an individual member of the Conifer Chamber of Commerce.  Donald Moore is the chair of the Jefferson County Cultural Council, an advisory body to the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District in metropolitan Denver.

You can congratulate John Tayer of Boulder (open seat), Wally Pulliam of Arvada (incumbent), Noel Busck of Thornton (open seat), Bill Christopher of Westminster (incumbent second vice chair), O’Neill Quinlan of Centennial (incumbent second vice chair), Juanita Chacon of Denver (incumbent), and Chris Martinez of Denver (the incumbent chairman of the board) already.  Each of them is certain to win an RTD board seat, as they are all unopposed.
