GOP Still Talking About Beastiality

Notorious Republican State Representative Jim Welker of Loveland said at the end of March in 2005 that he

feared for future legislation if the “Pandora’s box” of same-sex marriage were opened. “Where do you draw the line?” he said. “A year and a half ago a lady in India married her dog.”

Democratic Speaker of the State House Andrew Romanoff shot back:

We’re talking about the budget and they are talking about beastiality.

It’s still true.  Newly nominated GOP Lieutenant Governor candidate Rowland is in Welker’s camp.

According to the Denver Post, Rowland said something similar in March when she was a guest on Rocky Mountain PBS’s “Colorado State of Mind,” during a discussion of gay marriage:

I believe marriage is between a man and a woman. Homosexuality is an alternative lifestyle.

That doesn’t make it a marriage. Some people have group sex.  Should we allow two men and three women to marry? Should we allow polygamy with one man and five wives? For some people, the alternative lifestyle is bestiality. Do we allow a man to marry a sheep?

I mean at some point you have to draw the line.

Bill Ritter’s campaign, led by a man with a more serious temperment than often droll Andrew Romanoff or Democratic Party Secretary of State candidate Ken Gordon, responded by calling a spade a spade:

[T]he campaign of Bill Ritter, Beauprez’s Democratic rival, called the remarks “closed- minded” and reflective of an “intolerant, ignorant” ticket.
