Building Bridges

Denver is literally building a bridge (over I-25) betwen its West Side (which is predominantly Hispanic) and downtown.  It is called the Highland Bridge, and is the last step of a plan to allow pedestrians to travel all the way from the Highland neighborhood in Northwest Denver to Civic Center Park (home to the state capitol) along an extended 16th Steet Mall.  Two earlier pieces of the project, the Millenium Bridge over the rail lines near Union Station, and the Platte River Bridge, over you know what, have already been completed.

The Denver Infill blog (in a new format that allows links to individual posts) has a gallery of pictures showing the main arch go up step by step.  The walkway supported by the arch is not yet complete, but the entire project is projected to be finished in November of this year.
