The “Too Little, Too Late” Endorsements

It took almost a whole election cycle, but finally the Republican state treasurer’s candidate, Mark Hillman received the official endorsements for his candidacy from Governor and former Treasurer, Bill Owens and current Treasurer, Mike Coffman. It would have seemed that Hillman could have used these endorsements much earlier in his campaign for advertisements and such. But, maybe that was the point.

Did Owens and Coffman believe Hillman would not win against the Democratic challenger, Cary Kennedy and therefore, did not want to risk their political capital?

A week from Election Day, most voters have made their decision and the campaigns are in “Get Out the Vote” mode. Any endorsement this late in the game, like President Bush visiting Congresswoman, Marilyn Musgrave, is more GOTV motivation than candidate persuasion.
