In a letter to fellow Founding Father James Madison, Thomas Jefferson wrote: “I hold it that a little rebellion now and then is a good thing, and as necessary in the political world as storms in the physical.”Needless to say, “rebellion” isn’t the exclusive domain of peasants, torches and pitchforks. Citizens can assert their rights in any number of ways:
- testifying before a legislative committee
- getting to know the legislative staff responsible for keeping the wheels of democracy turning
- listening to House and Senate hearings online to stay in the loop on legislative priorities and decision-making
