Schaffer to Announce What He Already Announced

Republican Bob Schaffer is reportedly set to make an announcement about his U.S. Senate candidacy tomorrow. On Sunday, he is expected to announce that he did not, in fact, actually announce anything on Saturday.According to The Fort Collins Coloradoan:

Fort Collins Republican and former congressman Bob Schaffer is expected to make an announcement Saturday night in Boulder regarding his intention to run for the U.S. Senate.

“I know he is going to be making an announcement about his plans,” Colorado Republican Party Chair Dick Wadhams said. “I personally hope he will become a candidate for the U.S. Senate because Bob is one of the most thoughtful and articulate politicians Colorado has ever had.”

While Schaffer may very well declare that he is going to run for Senate in 2008, it won’t be much of an announcement because he’s already done it before. As The Hill first reported, Schaffer announced that he would run for Senate on April 28:

“He announced that we were the first to know that he is a candidate,” said County Commissioner and former county Republican Party Chairman Bob Campbell. Campbell added that Schaffer said a formal announcement and release would be coming at a later date.

Current Teller County Republican Party Chairman Mark Sievers also confirmed Schaffer’s announcement: “He did say that. He was unequivocal.”

Schaffer may be hoping for a bigger splash tomorrow
