It took the Colorado Springs Gazette only 10 days to find a new “angle” to the story about how U.S. Sen. Wayne Allard’s spokesman insulted – albeit inadvertently – the very group of people the senator was attempting to praise.
On May 31, Colorado Confidential’s Wendy Norris broke the story about the made-up quote that was sent out to news outlets across Colorado, and retracted shortly thereafter, in which Allard’s press secretary Steve Wymer quoted his boss disparaging first responders. The embarrassing item made an immediate splash on other news sites and around the blogosphere.
On Sunday, June 10, the Gazette followed up with its own twist. Headlined “Colorado senators find it’s easy to look silly,” the Gazette‘s story led not with the Allard release,
