Cost Of War Closes In On Half-Trillion

How much, exactly, is half a trillion?

It’s got  12 zeros after a one, and represents a thousand billions.

Which means that so far, American taxpayers have spent 500 thousand billions – or roughly half a trillion dollars – on the Iraq War. That’s a lot of money, for a war that three-quarters of Americans perceive is going very badly.Over the past week seven Fort Carson soldiers were killed in Iraq, including five who died in a June 28 bombing. It was the deadliest single incident in Iraq for soldiers from the Colorado Springs army base.

Here are the June numbers and facts about the human and financial cost of the Iraq War, recently released by the National Priorities Project.
