Truth-O-Meter Calls Out Candidates

Around election time it’s not unusual to see the accuracy of candidates’ statements analyzed by news media, but rarely as thoroughly or amusingly as’s Truth-O-Meter. The joint project of the St. Petersburg Times and Congressional Quarterly examines statements by presidential candidates and rates their veracity on a scale of six measures ranging from “True” to “Pants on Fire.”

So far, the only statement to receive the “Pants on Fire” ruling was made by Joe Biden, who said, “The President is brain-dead.” Not so, says the Truth-O-Meter. The site calls the statement “An irresponsible claim (and wrong medical diagnosis).”

continued…Surprisingly considering the fodder he gives his detractors, only one statement by Colorado Congressman Tom Tancredo has been evaluated by PolitiFact.

The Congressman said in May, “for every single scientist that tells you (global warming is) happening and that it’s our fault…I can stack up another group of reports that say just the opposite.”

“False,” says the Truth-O-Meter. “Most scientists say humans cause global warming.”
