In C. Springs, A Potential Loss Of Olympic Proportions

The threat – that the United States Olympic Committee might move away after 30 years at the base of Pikes Peak – is getting some moderate community leaders grousing, mostly privately so far. And it’s not just the potential loss of the national headquarters of a high-profile organization that has them bothered.After all, Colorado Springs is already world headquarters to dozens of national and international groups – from Focus on the Family to Young Life to the International Bible Society and the Navigators.

Many of the groups, like the ones just mentioned, are evangelical Christians, devoted to proselytizing and doing good deeds. And some, especially Focus on the Family, have become increasingly high profile and political, in an exceedingly controversial sort of way.
