C-Springs Publisher Disputes Religious Image Of City

Smarting over a recent New York Times travel piece describing Colorado Springs as Holy Roller Central, the publisher of The Colorado Springs Business Journal has smacked back — arguing in an open letter that the community is practically a city of heathens.  The dustup started last week, when the Times Travel section published a flattering story about the neighboring town Manitou Springs, which was characterized as a sort of hippie Mayberry:

“Manitou [Springs] is  … defined by what it is not — its neighbor Colorado Springs, a sprawling, chain-stored center of conservative evangelical Christianity looming just beyond the Garden of the Gods, a 1,300-acre array of Gaud
