Ready, set, debate!

Colorado incumbent Republican Rep. Marilyn Musgrave wants to get it on with her Democratic challenger, Betsy Markey.

Musgrave participated in only one debate in 2006 — against Democrat Angie Paccione and Reformer Eric Eidsness.

The Fort Collins Coloradoan Executive Editor Bob Moore blogged on the Musgrave debate challenge with some interesting analysis that is worth checking out.

Most interesting is Moore’s observation that it would be to Markey’s advantage to debate Musgrave on the incumbent’s home turf – the Eastern Plains.

The Eastern Plains have largely been a Republican stronghold for decades, and we don’t see Markey winning the popular vote there, debate or no debate. But if Markey can even close the gap a little and win over some voters, her path to Washington, D.C., could become smoother.
