Dreaming of Colorado Springs

Colorado Springs was named America’s fifth best city last week. But that hasn’t stopped some in the Pikes Peak Region from dreaming a little dream of how to make their city even better.

Today, the Cultural Office of the Pikes Peak Region along with The Gazette and a few other sponsors, unveiled a project called Dream City 2020.

Billed as a "landmark visioning project," Dream City 2020 invites people to talk, write, and, well, dream about their hopes for Colorado Springs in the next 12 years. After the brainstorming phase comes a vague "engagement phase" in which volunteers charge forward with their plans for a better city.

The project’s web site includes a section where visitors can kvell or kvetch about the city; it’s likely a welcome forum for Colorado Springsians, who are witness to the city’s painful and slow transition from an evangelical mecca what some hope will be a burgeoning cultural hub.
