The day after Colorado Attorney General John Suthers endorsed Wil Armstrong in a four-way Republican 6th Congressional District race, Jim Nicholson, the former ambassador to the Holy See and former secretary of veterans affairs under President George W. Bush, has also given his official nod to Armstrong, the son of former U.S. Sen. Bill Armstrong, the man who is often referred to as the godfather of conservative GOP politics in Colorado.
Both Suthers and Nicholson cited Armstrong’s business background as the reason for their support. Armstrong, who has never held public office, is the CEO of a software development company. He is running against Secretary of State Mike Coffman, who, aside from Suthers, is the only elected Republican holding statewide office. State Sens. Steve Ward and Ted Harvey are also in the four-way race. The winner will face Democrat Hank Eng in the general election to replace outgoing Republican U.S. Rep. Tom Tancredo.
"Now more than ever," Suthers said in a press release, "our party needs a leader with real world experience. Wil Armstrong has first-hand experience dealing with the regulation, the taxes, and the increased healthcare costs associated with building and maintaining a successful business."
Echoed Nicholson, in today’s news: "Wil Armstrong has demonstrated personal discipline through a tumultuous business cycle. He has had to manage his small companies and employees through difficult situations and has done so with success."
