Oil, gas, lobbying and K Street

The more you pay at the pump, the more oil and gas companies pay out to lobby your elected officials.

A

Surprised?

The Center for Responsive Politics published a report Thursday that examines whether there is a correlation between the price of oil on the world market and the amount the oil and gas industry spends to lobby.

The answer? Yep, there is.

Interesting to note though that since 2004 the amount oil and gas has given in campaign donations is down.

Maybe the oil and gas industry feels it can get more out of lobbying the Democrat-controlled Congress rather than donating to it.

Don’t forget about The Colorado Independent’s look at oil and gas giving to Colorado congressional candidates this year. Check it out to see how much the booming oil and gas industry has given to your elected representative.
