‘Green’ push overshadowed by blue bear

Even Denver’s big blue bear statue is getting a “green” makeover in time for August’s Democratic National Convention, according to the city.

The 40-foot tall statue entitled “I See What You Mean,” which peers into the Colorado Convention Center, will get to stay blue, but the city is Xeriscaping below and around the bear.

The city began installing trees, bushes and a flagstone path July 1 and expects the new landscaping to reduce the area’s water consumption by 80 percent.

Despite the improvement, chances are convention visitors will only notice the bear.
