Get out from under the bus, check out Bush legacy

Unless you’re a defense contractor, oil executive or Dick Cheney, you’ve probably felt the last eight years have left you, figuratively, under the bus. An actual bus filled with exhibits commemorating the Bush years is chugging its way to Denver with stops Friday and Saturday in northern Colorado and Wyoming. The mobile museum, sponsored by Americans United for Change, joins a multitude of vehicles converging on the Democratic National Convention (DNC).

The Bush Legacy Tour, with exhibits on everything from the Iraq War and the economy to Katrina and health care, visited Grand Junction on Wednesday and Colorado Springs on Thursday. It will be parked 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Friday at Lee Martinez Park in Fort Collins, next to an SEIU event examining the McCain health care plan. From 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., the bus will be at 9th Street and 9th Avenue in Greeley. On Saturday, the bus will be at the Depot Plaza Farmer’s Market in Cheyenne from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

During the DNC, the bus will be open to visitors 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday in downtown Denver at 14th and Champa streets. “There may be some things that come up if someone wants us to bring the bus somewhere,” said Julie Blust, the tour’s press secretary, as the biodiesel bus prepared to depart Memorial Park in Colorado Springs on Thursday.

The tour, under way since June 24, has taken Blust and her two coworkers — a driver and a scheduler — across the country, including visits to small towns “forgotten by the campaign trail.” After the DNC, they’ll travel to St. Paul, Minn., for the Republican National Convention, and then head south with stops planned in Louisiana timed around the third anniversary of Bush’s visit to New Orleans after Katrina. The tour lasts through Election Day.

“People aren’t amazed by the disaster,” Blust said, “everyone knows that. There’s no one piece that’s shocking, but when you look at it all together and attribute it to the conservative policies of Bush and his allies in Congress, people are so tired of what’s going on the last eight years.”

Via DemConWatch, other buses parked around the DNC will include Rock the Vote, Register for Change, Every Woman Counts and Project Vote Smart.
