Polis to speak at Obama event in Westminster today

Things have been awfully quiet on the CD2 front since Boulder entrepreneur and philanthropist Jared Polis beat out former state Senate president Joan Fitz-Gerald and Boulder conservationist Will Shafroth in the most expensive Democratic U.S. congressional primary in state history Aug. 12.

Polis, a heavy favorite over Republican aerospace engineer Scott Starin for a seat that has been a Democratic stronghold for years, will nonetheless make an appearance today to introduce Gov. Bill Ritter, who in turn will introduce Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama at Mountain Range High School in Westminster.

According to a press release, Polis will address Obama’s leadership on economic issues at approximately 11:15 a.m. and then introduce Ritter. Polis is a multimillionaire who made a fortune in dotcoms before serving on the Colorado State Board of Education.
