VIDEO: DeGette grills BP’s Hayward on Deepwater cementing shortcuts

Colorado U.S. Democratic Rep. Diana DeGette took a little less than ten minutes Thursday as a member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee to question embattled BP CEO Tony Hayward on possible corporate negligence in the form of cost-saving shortcuts that may have led to the Deepwater Horizon explosion and leak catastrophe. She is a little rough around the edges but well prepared. He is smooth and resigned to the drawnout stagey political process. The YouTube is eight minutes long. In the last 15 seconds DeGette gets all she needs.

“Let me ask you this: Are you aware of the fact it would have cost about $128,000 and taken nine to twelve hours to complete the [canceled] cement bond lock test?”

“I am aware of the fact, yes.”

“Yes. OK. OK, I yield back. Thank you Mr Chairman.”

The crucial bond lock test was canceled eleven hours before the rig exploded and the oil began gushing into the Gulf.
