Maes camp starting to ‘feel it’ in tight primary race with McInnis

GOP gubernatorial candidate Dan Maes is starting to feel it, spokesman Nate Strauch told the Colorado Independent at 9:30 p.m. “We’re feeling pretty good,” he said.

Strauch said suburban Denver areas have given Maes a strong lead in his tight primary battle with former congressman Scott McInnis, and they are still waiting for Weld and El Paso to come in.

“We feel pretty good about Weld and El Paso,” he said. Strauch added Maes was up by 1,300 votes with 76 percent counted. He said Maes was now up 50.2 percent to 49.8 percent for McInnis.

9News had the race at 50-50 with 80 percent of the precincts reporting. The winner takes on Democratic Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and the American Constitution Party’s Tom Tancredo in November’s general election.

McInnis spokesman Sean Duffy could not be reached.
