Maes reportedly holds slim lead over McInnis

The Denver Post is reporting Evergreen businessman Dan Maes holds a slim lead over former frontrunner Scott McInnis in the Republican gubernatorial primary tonight.

The paper had Maes up 50.1 percent to 49.8 percent with 65 percent of the precincts reporting. 9News had it too close to call at 50-50 with 73 percent of the precincts reporting.

Both candidates have stumbled down the stretch, with Maes paying campaign finance violation fines for improperly reimbursing himself for mileage, and McInnis admitting to plagiarizing water articles funded by a nonprofit foundation.

Maes as recently as Monday continued to attack the presumptive Democratic nominee, Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper, for a bike sharing program tied to the United Nations that Maes said could cost Denver residents their personal freedoms.
