Buck moves ahead of Bennet, confident in victory

With the Colorado Senate race in a dead heat, Republican candidate Ken Buck’s spokesman, Owen Loftus, told the Colorado Independent that with El Paso county votes now coming in, he sees a likely Buck victory.

Loftus said that incumbent Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet’s strongholds in Denver and Boulder have already been counted and that as counts for rural Colorado and the conservative hub of Colorado Springs come in, the numbers appear to be looking good for his candidate. Democrats, however, have been pointing out for hours that the Boulder and Denver tallies have been plagued with irregularities and that nothing is certain even five hours after the polls closed.

Earlier Buck told the Colorado Independent he was feeling “good, real good” about his chances. At the time, Bennet had jumped out to an early lead.

At the time of this report, Buck had surged ahead by 30,000 votes and was up 49 to 46 percent. The crowd at the Doubletree Hotel in the Denver Tech Center was jubilant.

Those numbers were corrected a short time later to reflect a misreporting of 40,000 votes for Buck in Boulder County. The actual numbers at about 11:15 p.m. reflected a virtual dead heat at 47 to 47 percent.
