State Senate President Brandon Shaffer rallied the crowd at the Democratic headquarters early this morning with a short speech meant to wake up reporters and party faithful.
He predicted Democrats would control the state Senate 18-17 after Tuesday night, with Colorado Springs Democrat John Morse retaining his seat.
He praised by name a dozen or so Democrats who ran for office this election, and said they did it for the sake of public service.
“They did it for the things we value,” he said. Those things include creating jobs, growing the economy, and putting people back to work, he added.
“This has been an incredibly difficult election year,” he said. “Just look at all the ads, not just in the Senate but in the legislature. You know, running for office is a very difficult thing to do,” he said.
