Colorado Cares Day is Saturday

With projects all over the state ready for your help and your physical and mental engagement, Colorado Cares Day is sure to be fun for the whole family.

The 13th Annual Colorado Cares Day is Saturday, July 30. Colorado Cares Day is a statewide day of service in honor of Colorado’s statehood on August 1, 1876.

“Through their efforts, volunteers demonstrate a commitment to making a positive difference in the lives of Coloradans,” said Lt. Gov. Garcia. “Now more than ever, Colorado Cares Day is an important time for bringing people together and strengthening our spirit of community.”

Under the leadership of Serve Colorado – Governor’s Commission on Community Service, more than 57 service projects across 19 counties have been organized for July 30. Colorado Cares Day extends through other service opportunities across the state during the month of August. The wide range of service projects focuses on youth, education, the environment, health care, and fighting poverty.

According to the Corporation for National Community Service, from 2007-2009, approximately 1.3 million volunteers in Colorado contributed 161.9 million hours of service. This translates to $3.5 billion in contributed service statewide. Close to one-third of state residents volunteer – ranking Colorado 16th among the 50 states and Washington, DC.

Volunteer registration closes Monday, July 25. Adults and children can sign-up to volunteer on the Serve Colorado website, www.colorado.gov/gccs.
