Denver Mayor Michael Hancock today announced appointments to the 2011 Denver Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) Commission. The Commission is comprised of 22 sitting commissioners tasked with providing the mayor with insight and communication with the GLBT community in Denver.
“One of my core values is inclusiveness,” Mayor Hancock said in a press release. “I want input and feedback from all of Denver’s citizens, no matter their race, gender, or sexual orientation, when addressing the challenges and opportunities that face our city. This Commission helps to ensure all voices are welcomed to the table.”
“We applaud Mayor Hancock’s commitment to ensuring that the voices of GLBT Denverites are heard. The GLBT Commission has provided incredible leadership in years past, and we look forward to working with all the commissioners, new and old, as they work to improve Denver for all people,” said Brad Clark, executive director of One Colorado.
New commissioners include Mark Valentine, David Sevick, David Remson, Michael Nicoletti, Rene Hickman and Charlene Byron. Members who have been reappointed to serve another term are Rachel Chaparro, Erin Iwata, Erica Johnson, Santiago Lopez, Patrick Oakes and Dorelle Raab-Peters. Erica Johnson will serve as Chair for the current year.
The mission of the Denver GLBT Commission is to enhance the social, economic, and political quality of life for Denver’s gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender residents.
