On the Stump: Cory Gardner, GOP U.S. Senate candidate

As Democrats and Republicans hold county assemblies this month, statewide candidates are making the rounds in an effort to garner enough votes at state assemblies to be held on April 12 to make the primary ballot. The Colorado Independent recorded several recent speeches and will feature them in coming days.

Candidate: U.S. Rep. Cory Gardner, running for the GOP nomination to challenge Democratic U.S. Sen. Mark Udall.

Locale: Jefferson County Republican Assembly, March 24, 2014, with an introduction by JeffCo GOP Chairman Bill Tucker.

Issues: Economic growth, limited government, lowering the national debt.

Quote: “Mark Udall has voted with the president 99 percent of the time. He lied to us about our health care. He has increased taxes. He’s voted against the Second Amendment. He cast the deciding vote for Obamacare.”

Joking: “There are more people in this room than there are in my entire hometown, I think. I live in a little tiny town of Yuma, Colorado… it’s the place that goes by on the bottom of the television screen: ‘Hail storm coming, take cover.’ “
