Fladen: Modest proposal for kids at border

The main objection to the kids at the border is that they create a burden on society if we let them in.  So if that is the case, then why not let kids that have sponsors into the country?  It would be pretty simple: if a church pledges to support two kids, then those two kids get to come in so long as they pass an additional health screening.  If a kid cannot obtain a sponsor after 90 days, they get sent back to home country.   Finally, to undercut the ridiculous argument that this is a sovereignty issue, all such kids admitted must sign a paper acknowledging the sovereignty of the United States over our territory when they turn 18 years of age if they wish to stay in this country.
