Hempy rolls into Gov’s race with timely campaign finance ad

It’s not just incumbent John Hickenlooper and Republican Bob Beauprez, Harry Hempy is running for governor too. Today he released a little video explaining why to Colorado voters who are split fairly evenly between Democratic, Republican and Unaffiliated. The answer: money in politics as a result of the U.S. Supreme Court’s 2010 Citizens United decision.

“The ungodly amounts of money that are spent by Democrats and Republicans to win office is not the way we should be having our elections,” says Hempy. “We don’t want money to be the determining factor in who gets elected.”

Hempy’s youtube video arrived just in time for a whopper of a campaign finance story from Sandra Fish noting that nearly $50 million in political ad buys have already flowed into Colorado this cycle, largely from outside sources — that’s 20 days of TV.
