The Colorado Independent is a two-year-old statewide outlet run by veteran journalists that features news, investigation and analysis. We are working to create the best resource for the smartest news consumers in Colorado, readers who want coverage of stories that matter and that tells them with style. We need a talented word and Web person to join our small staff to help us write and package multimedia stories and to manage social media and general work flow. It is a challenging position with great opportunity to influence the site and to gain wide experience in the evolving new-media-news field.

The job:

— Copyedit, proof, package and post stories that match and further the tone of the site

— Write short pieces on the news cycle

— Manage social media to promote site stories

— Always be thinking about how to help shape stories to best serve digital-age news readers by producing stories that pop on the Web and travel well

— Produce video reporting pieces

— Help plan Colorado Independent newsmaker events

— Work with staff writers and freelancers to maintain weekly/monthly edit calendar

— Features competitive salary
