Video: LGBT Republicans deem Rep. Mike Coffman their “Superfriend” — and dress him up in a cape

Face beaming, arms crossed, Rep. Mike Coffman stands proud, his aqua-marine cape blowing in the breeze.

His body is a cartoon. His grin is wide. He’s one of the LGBT Log Cabin Republicans’ “Superfriends.”

The Superfriends are “GOP champions of LGBT equality who have gone on record with more than rhetoric in support of equal rights for all: they’ve all voted in favor of pro-gay legislation,” as Gregory Angelo, president of the Log Cabin Republicans, noted in a recent fundraising email.

Coffman, who has been honored by the Colorado Log Cabin Republicans, has supported the Employment Nondiscrimination Act — but also opposed same-sex marriage.

After the Supreme Court decision on marriage equality, he wrote: “The world is changing, and while I’ve supported traditional marriage, the court has ruled a ban on same-sex marriage unconstitutional. It is time we move forward and focus on the big debates of our day — how to keep our country safe and get Americans back to work.”
