WATCH: Denver DA debate with moderator Susan Greene

It’s often said that a district attorney has more direct power over people’s lives than a mayor. If that’s so, Denver voters need to know who’s running and how he or she differs from outgoing Denver DA Mitch Morrissey.

Where do the candidates stand on prosecuting the homeless and mental ill? What are they thinking about racial profiling, excessive force and the city’s longstanding pattern of not prosecuting killer cops and sheriff’s deputies?

The Colorado Independent hosted a DA candidate debate on Wednesday, Sept. 14th, the first public forum in the general election race for Denver DA. Democrat Beth McCann and independent candidate Helen Morgan debated questions posed by our editor, Susan Greene, and by audience members. Watch the full 90-minute debate here.

The Colorado Independent is a statewide online news source operating in a time when spin is plentiful, but factual, fair and unflinching news in the public interest is all too rare. Our award-winning team of veteran investigative and explanatory reporters and news columnists aims to amplify the voices of Coloradans whose stories are unheard, shine light on the relationships between people, power and policy, and hold public officials to account. We strive to report the news with context, social conscience, and soul, and to give Coloradans the insight they need to promote conversation, understanding and progress in this square, swing state we call home.

  1. Like a dog to its vomit, Denver’s idiot Sonambulists and Zombies returned to Beth McCann in the Collaborationist primary. She must not be allowed to take office!
