WATCH | Press Club raw video: How to Save the Denver Post, Part II

Dave Krieger and Patty Calhoun

You’ve heard about the Denver Rebellion and the crisis at Colorado’s flagship newspaper. But what can you do as readers? Subscribe to The Denver Post to support local news? Cancel your subscription to deny the paper’s New York hedge-fund owners greater profits to incentivize them to sell to a local owner? Advertise or don’t advertise? What is it going to take?

On Tuesday, we held a public town hall and panel discussion at The Denver Press Club to hash this out.

We quickly hit capacity, so we’re doing an encore tonight. Watch the live stream here, starting at 6:30 p.m. Mountain Time, and share it widely. If you missed Tuesday’s event or didn’t catch that live stream, you can watch the archived video from it here.

The Colorado Independent, The Colorado Media Alliance, and The Denver Press Club present this live panel discussion from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Have questions during the discussion? Tweet them to us @COindependent.

  1. This was great. Thanks for organizing! I had to leave at 8 p.m. last night and would love to learn more about any decisions on next steps toward protecting journalism in our community. Thanks.

  2. I watched both the Tuesday and the Thursday night live-streams of these panels at the Denver Press Club.

Perhaps I missed it, but I was quite surprised to find that not a single person mentioned that the CEO of the New York Times recently said it was quite likely that there would be no more paper edition of the Times sometime within the next decade.

Perhaps the current crop of young people will eventually go retro and decide that reading news on delivered paper is cool. Stranger things have happened (like the current renaissance in vinyl LPs among millennials, supposedly yearning for vestiges of reality in a non-virtual world).
