Amy Goodman is the host and executive producer of Democracy Now!, the award-winning global news hour that broadcasts on over 1,400 public radio and TV stations around the globe.

This talk is her only Colorado speaking engagement this Winter/Spring!

From covering the Standoff at Standing Rock to Morocco’s military occupation of Western Sahara, where journalists have long been banned, to ongoing U.S wars in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syrian and Yemen, to the crisis in our immigrants communities and Donald Trump’s daily assaults on the foundations of our democracy, Amy Goodman and Democracy Now! shine a bright light on vital issues all too often ignored by corporate-controlled news industry.

Amy will be speaking at Denver’s historic East High School

She will be offering her insights on current events, with a special focus on the grassroots social movements that are driving change in our society.

Celebrate independent journalism, KFFR, and Democracy Now!’s 23rd anniversary with Amy Goodman.

There will be a VIP reception with Amy prior to the talk, from 5:30-6:30 pm, with light refreshments and including a signed copy of her latest book, Democracy Now!: 20 Years Covering the Movements Changing America. Some proceeds from the reception will benefit The Colorado Independent’s nonprofit newsroom.

The Colorado Independent is a statewide online news source operating in a time when spin is plentiful, but factual, fair and unflinching news in the public interest is all too rare. Our award-winning team of veteran investigative and explanatory reporters and news columnists aims to amplify the voices of Coloradans whose stories are unheard, shine light on the relationships between people, power and policy, and hold public officials to account. We strive to report the news with context, social conscience, and soul, and to give Coloradans the insight they need to promote conversation, understanding and progress in this square, swing state we call home.

  1. As I’m sure you know, the front range has been out of compliance with its ozone pollution. At the same time, Suncor has been out of compliance in the pollution it puts into the air and water. Non-electric vehicles also add to the pollution with the use of diesel fuel in particular. As you also might know, Central I-70 is to be widened (unless it is stopped by the Governor). The widening of this highway will also increase the pollution in the area. The residents have suffered from these various forms of pollution for as many as fifty years or longer if you go beck to the days of smelters that were located in this area. As usual, the people have no voice in the decisions that are made or not made. Big business owns our elected officials for the most part. How can you publicize the plight of lower income people who are at the mercy of big money and our love affair with oil and gas consumption? I haven’t even touched on fracking which is going on all over the state!
