Another Stun Gun Death

A 34 year old man in the Araphahoe County jail awaiting trial on car theft and domestic violence charges died from a shock from a guard’s stun gun today.

This is the second time this month in metropolitan Denver that a relatively young, apparently healthy man has been killed by what is designed to be a non-lethal weapon.

Use of stun guns by law enforcement officials has repeatedly drawn scrutiny in Colorado this summer.

On August 4, in Boulder, a 22 year old man died from a shock from a stun gun.

A police officer in Aspen was fired for inappropriately using a TASER on an elderly woman on June 7th of this year.

And, in July of this year, the ACLU filed suit against the Sheriff’s office in Garfield County alleging that TASERs are used to punish inmates who are restrained or do not pose a threat.
