Faith leaders oppose Denver anti-immigrant ballot initiative

Tonight, faith leaders and immigrants-rights organizers will gather in Denver to voice their opposition to a citywide initiative that will be put to voters on the August 12 ballot. Denver Initiated Question 100 will require police officers to impound vehicles of unlicensed drivers in an effort to crack down on undocumented immigrants. Tonight’s rally, which will run from 5:00 to 5:30 on the steps of the City and County Building, is hosted by multi-faith organization We Believe Colorado. City Councilor Paul Lopez, cosponsor of a city proclamation against the initiative, will also be in attendance.

"If passed, this initiative would increase the likelihood of racial profiling, unduly punish people based on skin color, appearance or spoken language, and place a tremendous burden on law enforcement and other agencies," reads the We Believe Colorado press release.
