No investigation in District 2 County Commissioner primary switcheroo

Two recounts, one in front of judges from the Colorado Secretary of State’s Office, put Interim Commissioner John Cordova on the ballot for the Democrats in Pueblo’s County Commissioner race.

The Pueblo Chieftain is reporting that, despite an election worker’s mistake in counting mail-in ballots twice, there will be no probe.

Pueblo County Clerk and Recorder Gilbert Ortiz said the official election canvas should be in on Thursday. Problems arose after the county recorder reported that state Rep. Dorothy Butcher had received 48 more votes than Cordova. The problem was originally thought to be with the software used for tabulating votes, but it was later discovered that an election worker made a mistake when adding a group of mail-in ballots to the totals.

Cordova won the primary with 2,874 votes to Butcher’s 2,819.
