Democrats Take the Stage at Club 20

It was a sight Democrats haven’t seen in probably the whole history of Club 20: A Democratic Senator, Ken Salazar and two Democratic Congressmen John Salazar and Mark Udall representing the constituents of the Western Slope. Wasn’t it just yesterday when it was an all-Republican club with Senators Wayne Allard and Ben Nighthorse Campbell and Congressman Scott McInnis?

Senator Allard was invited to speak, but he was absent for a reason that was not announced. The three Democrats were in Grand Junction for the Club 20 meeting last Saturday to update Club 20 members about national issues such as Iraq, terrorism and illegal immigration. Rep Salazar said he had visited there twice and saw improvements with new schools and hospitals during his last trip. Sen. Salazar said the war is against radical jihadists who will continue to give coalition forces a tough time.

Both congressmen and the senator thought that the threat of terror from Iraq could be controlled by United Nations sanctions. Plus, all three did not expect to see immigration legislation being passed by Congress before the November election.
