ABC reporter arrested taking pictures of senators, big donors

A cigar-chomping sheriff arrested an ABC News reporter who was taking pictures of Democratic senators and big donors from a sidewalk outside the Brown Palace Hotel on Wednesday, Brian Ross reports on the network’s blog.

Watch video of the arrest — including the cop shoving the reporter into traffic — here (after a brief but annoying ad).

A police official later told lawyers for ABC News that [Asa] Eslocker is being charged with trespass, interference, and failure to follow a lawful order. He also said the arrest followed a signed complaint from the Brown Palace Hotel….

During the arrest, one of the officers can be heard saying to Eslocker, “You’re lucky I didn’t knock the f..k out of you.”

The arresting officer told Eslocker the Brown Palace owns the sidewalk encircling its hotel after the reporter complained he was on public property. The reporter is in Denver investigating connections between fat cats and Democratic Party big shots, many of whom are staying at the Brown Palace.

Eslocker was released after posting bond.

It’s another in an ongoing series of clashes between Denver’s bolstered police presence and news media during the DNC.
