On the final day of the legislative session Wednesday, Colorado’s conservation community praised state lawmakers for staving off a slew of bills aimed at turning back the clock on the Ritter administration’s “New Energy Economy” and also for passing a handful of bills that actually advance the state’s reputation as a leader in clean energy policies.
The executive director of Colorado Conservation Voters has two words for a new mailer that features the face of state Sen. Gail Schwartz, D-Snowmass, superimposed over the body of Donald Trump: “poor taste. It is an obvious leading candidate for the most tasteless piece of mail so far in the 2010 election cycle,” CCV’s Pete Maysmith said Thursday. “It's over the top and in poor taste.” A wave of other mailers, fliers and attack ads are being blasted by Democrats, Republicans and independents alike in the final weeks before the Nov. 2 general election.
Colorado residents overwhelmingly prefer renewable energy and natural gas to coal as an energy source, according to a poll released Tuesday ahead of Colorado Public Utilities Commission deliberations over a controversial energy bill passed last legislative session.
State Sen. Josh Penry, R-Grand Junction, the former quarterback and golden boy of the state GOP, has his name splashed all over a piece of clean-energy legislation that has the backing of his political nemesis, Gov. Bill Ritter, and a slew of conservation groups, including Environment Colorado, Colorado Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club.
