It seems to make no sense that a year after the murderous rampage at Sandy Hook that Congress wouldn’t have passed even the most modest of guns laws. It makes no sense unless you really understand the political power of the NRA. Robert Draper takes a long look for the New York Times magazine.

Draper writes of Congress: I stand with gun lovers; I stand with victims of gun violence. That qualifies in Washington, anyway, as being nuanced.
