As the 60th anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education approaches, it’s time to look at what it accomplished and what it hasn’t. Ronald Brownstein argues in the National Journal that the problem of resegregation isn’t as bad as some say, but that “racial and economic isolation remains daunting: One recent study found that three-fourths of African-Americans and two-thirds of Hispanics attend schools where a majority of the students qualify as low-income.” What’s different today, he says, is that with the nation’s growing diversity, the stakes grow ever greater.
