Should anyone be astonished to learn that in a recent poll, Rep. John Salazar, D-CO comfortably leads his Republican opponent, Scott Tipton?
Although the Salazar campaign paid for the poll, would it shock us to read that Salazar has almost a two to one advantage over Tipton? (It’s been quite obvious that the Salazar campaign has been on “cruise control” for the 2006 election season so far.)
Let’s not forget the fundraising figures of three to one in favor of Salazar either.
But did you know that John Salazar has voted with the Republicans 50% of the time on 12 key issues? Some of the bills below reflect Salazar’s support of Republican Majority issues, from the Washington Post:
Vote 288: H RES 861: This vote pledged support for the War in Iraq and rejected a timetable for the withdrawal of U.S. troops.
Vote 135: H R 4297: Extended the Bush tax cuts
Vote 296: H J RES 10: This vote approved the proposal of a Constitutional amendment to ban the desecration of the American flag.
Salazar has always said his congressional votes reflect the people he serves in the 3rd Congressional District, which includes most of the West Slope and Pueblo-and where the Republicans have the edge on voter registration.
Taking all these elements into account…nope, there shouldn’t be any surprise in the 3rd CD race at all.
